The Society for Technical Communication (STC) is a membership organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. The Society is organized geographically into Regions and again by chapters within regions. The STC chapter for the Dane County area of Wisconsin, which includes Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is called the Four Lakes Chapter.

The Four Lakes Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication was founded in Madison, Wisconsin in January 1991. The chapter serves the Dane County area and the need of hundreds of high-tech companies for good documentation to help sell and service their products.
